Parts

Tesla parts in Australia fall into three broad tiers: genuine components ordered through Tesla, quality used or salvage parts pulled from written-off cars, and aftermarket equivalents. Genuine parts guarantee fitment; good used parts suit body and trim repairs; aftermarket is common for wear items and consumables. Match everything to your exact model and build year, as Tesla revises hardware mid-cycle without changing the model name.

  • Body & exterior: bumpers, guards, mirror caps, glass, frunk and boot components, flush electric door handles, and Model X falcon-wing door hardware.
  • Suspension & steering: control arms, ball joints, bushes, links, coil springs, dampers, and air-suspension parts on Model S and Model X.
  • Brakes: pads, discs and calipers. Regenerative braking does most of the slowing, so friction components often last much longer than on a petrol car, but seized calipers and surface-rusted discs from light use are common in humid areas.
  • Electrical: the 12V (or 16V lithium) auxiliary battery, contactors, sensors, cameras and control modules. High-voltage components are specialist-only.
  • Cooling & thermal: coolant pumps, heat-pump and Octovalve parts, radiators and hoses that manage battery and drive-unit temperature.
  • Cabin & wear items: cabin/HEPA filters, wiper blades, the 12V battery, tyres and suspension wear parts.
  • Charging: charge-port assemblies, latch actuators and pins, plus the mobile connector.

Before buying, check: the full VIN, the build date on the door-jamb plate, drivetrain (RWD vs AWD), and any battery pack revision, since chemistry and hardware changed across the range.

Battery & Range

Tesla uses more than one battery chemistry across its Australian range. Rear-wheel-drive Standard Range Model 3 and Model Y typically use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) prismatic cells, while Long Range and Performance dual-motor variants generally use nickel-based (NMC/NCA) cells. Older Model S and Model X packs used nickel-cobalt-aluminium (NCA) cylindrical cells. Usable capacity varies by model and year, broadly ranging from around 50-60 kWh on RWD cars up to roughly 75-84 kWh on Long Range packs; treat exact figures as variant-specific.

All packs lose some capacity over time. Tesla's Australian new-vehicle warranty covers the battery and drive unit separately from the general vehicle warranty, and guarantees a minimum level of retained capacity over the term. According to Tesla's Australian warranty terms, the battery and drive unit are covered for 8 years with a distance limit that depends on variant (commonly 160,000 km for entry RWD models and 192,000 km for Long Range and Performance), with a guaranteed minimum of 70% battery retention over that period. Confirm the exact terms for your build.

Repairs may involve module-level work or full-pack replacement depending on the fault and the pack design; LFP structural packs are less module-friendly than older designs. High-voltage battery work is dangerous and must be carried out by suitably qualified technicians with the correct isolation equipment. Never open, probe or attempt DIY repairs on a Tesla HV pack.

Charging

Current Tesla models sold in Australia use a CCS Combo 2 (CCS2) charge port, which handles both AC (Type 2) and DC fast charging through the one inlet. For home and destination charging you use the upper Type 2 section; for DC rapid charging the lower CCS2 pins are used. Note that very early Australian Model S and Model X cars used a Type 2 port arrangement, so connector details can vary on older vehicles.

On AC, most Teslas have an 11 kW onboard charger, which draws up to around 7.4 kW on single-phase supply (32 A) or the full 11 kW on three-phase. This suits overnight home charging on a wallbox and public AC destination chargers.

On DC, peak charging speed varies by model and pack. Model 3 variants typically peak around 170-250 kW and Model Y Long Range up to about 250 kW, though the actual rate depends on state of charge, battery temperature and the charger. LFP cars can generally be charged to 100% routinely, whereas nickel-based packs are usually kept to a daily limit around 80-90%. Tesla's Australian Supercharger network uses CCS2, and Superchargers are increasingly open to other CCS2 EVs.

Tesla's Australian EV range spans four nameplates, and the main differences are body style, drivetrain and battery tier:

  • Model 3 (Sedan, 2019 onward): RWD or dual-motor AWD, in Standard/RWD, Long Range and Performance forms.
  • Model S (Hatch/Sedan liftback, 2014-2020 here): large luxury EV, mostly dual-motor AWD in later builds.
  • Model X (Wagon/SUV, 2016-2020 here): dual-motor AWD SUV with falcon-wing rear doors.

To identify a specific variant, check the badging (rear boot lettering is often removed or absent), the build plate in the driver's door jamb, and above all the 17-digit VIN, which encodes drivetrain and build details.
